A blizzard is a severe winter storm characterized by strong winds and blowing snow. It typically involves sustained winds of at least 35 miles per hour (56 kilometers per hour) and considerable falling or blowing snow, creating low visibility and dangerous travel conditions. Blizzards often result in whiteout conditions, where it becomes difficult or impossible to distinguish between the ground and the falling or blowing snow. They can also bring extreme cold temperatures and can be accompanied by ice or freezing rain. Blizzards can be very hazardous and can cause transportation disruptions, power outages, and other difficulties for affected areas.
