    Electromagnetic waves are a form of energy that can travel through empty space as well as through various materials. They propagate by oscillating electric and magnetic fields that are perpendicular to each other and to the direction of wave propagation.

    Electromagnetic waves can travel through a vacuum, such as outer space, where no material medium is required. This means that light from distant stars and galaxies can reach us through the vastness of space.

    In addition to traveling through a vacuum, electromagnetic waves can also propagate through different materials, including solids, liquids, and gases. However, the speed and characteristics of the waves can be influenced by the properties of the medium they are traveling through. For example, the speed of light is slower in materials such as water or glass compared to its speed in a vacuum.

    It’s important to note that electromagnetic waves can be absorbed, reflected, or refracted when they encounter different substances. The interaction between electromagnetic waves and matter is the basis for various phenomena, such as the reflection of light from a mirror or the absorption of microwaves by food.
