Approximately 71 percent of the earth is covered with oceans. Oceans are home to more than billions of organisms. Many organisms are yet to be discovered. Oceans provide livelihood to many families and are a major source of food supply.
A prominent question arises when we discuss about number of oceans. To be precise, there is only one ocean, and it is the Global ocean. But when we consider ocean basins, we can divide the global ocean into 5 categories.
1. Pacific ocean
2. Atlantic ocean
3. Indian ocean
4. Arctic ocean
5. *Southern ocean
Among these Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean basin. The Titanic tragedy occurred in the Atlantic ocean. Indian ocean is the only ocean with the name of a country. The Arctic Ocean is situated near the poles, which causes the accumulation of icebergs. On the whole, the ocean is a major part of our world.
