World War II was a global conflict that took place between 1939 and 1945. Some of the major events of World War II include:
The German Invasion of Poland (September 1939):
This event is considered the starting point of World War II in Europe, as Germany invaded Poland, leading to declarations of war from France and the United Kingdom.
The Battle of Britain (July-October 1940):
This was a major air campaign fought between the British Royal Air Force and the German Luftwaffe, in which the British successfully defended their airspace and prevented a German invasion.
The Attack on Pearl Harbor (December 1941):
The surprise attack by the Japanese on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, led to the United States’ entry into World War II.
The Battle of Stalingrad (July 1942 – February 1943):
This was a decisive battle on the Eastern Front, in which the Soviet Red Army defeated the German Wehrmacht, marking a major turning point in the war.
The D-Day Landings (June 1944):
Also known as the Normandy Landings, this was the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, which opened a new front in the war and eventually led to the liberation of Western Europe.
The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 1945):
The United States dropped atomic bombs on these two Japanese cities, leading to Japan’s surrender and the end of the war.
Other significant events include the North African campaign, the Battle of the Atlantic, the bombing of Dresden, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Soviet advance on Berlin, among others. World War II resulted in the deaths of millions of people and had a lasting impact on the global political and economic landscape.
