The Mughal emperor who banned music and dance in his court was Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb was the sixth emperor of the Mughal Empire, ruling from 1658 to 1707. Known for his conservative and strict interpretation of Islamic law, Aurangzeb imposed a number of restrictions on cultural activities during his reign. He discouraged music, dance, and other forms of artistic expression, considering them as sinful and against Islamic principles. Aurangzeb’s policies were in stark contrast to those of his predecessors, who had patronized and promoted art and culture in the Mughal court.
