Why Do Star Twinkle in the Sky?
Why do stars twinkle in the sky? Does it have anything to do with the scattering of light?
Star Twinkle in the Sky
The twinkling of stars happens because of the atmospheric refraction of the light coming from the stars as an individual. When the starlight enters the atmosphere of the earth, it has to pass through so many layers/densities of air at various levels and different altitudes, so it refracts a lot before reaching our eyes. The continuously changing atmosphere refracts the starlight in different amounts at different ranges. In this way, the starlight reaching our eyes increases and decreases continuously, and so the stars appear to twinkle. Scattering of light is the raveling of light from one medium to another, and this happens in the whole process when starlight comes to our eyes from the star. As it has to go through different densities, atmospheric conditions, and altitudes.
