Why do birds make nests?
Reason Birds Build Nests?
Birds built nest usually to lay eggs. Birds, firstly search a suitable place to built their nest mostly between the branches of big trees there they, built up their nest. Birds especially make best to lay eggs and hatch it. When birds lay eggs, they need to hatch them; then the egg will grow into a new bird. They feed their Chicks, teaches flying. They also built a nest to protect themselves and their chicks from adverse atmospheric conditions like cold, rain, and wind. A nest is like a ‘home sweet home’ for birds. But the basic purpose of any nest is to facilitate the raising of young, providing a functional and safe environment for both eggs and babies. (In some species, males also use nest building to attract females in some cases. Also, some birds do not build nests; like crows lay their eggs in the nest of a cuckoo’s nest (Indian koyal). They cuckoo hatch them, protect them, and feed them, too. When they become (crows chicks ) capable of fl,y they fly. Thank you!!

There are 100 of species of birds which live in different habitats and they are of different size. Now, the common thing in all these birds is, they all lay eggs. Like they migrate or go from one place to another, but their eggs can’t do the same. So, basically, before laying an egg, these birds make sure that they have a cozy palace to lay their eggs. They also make sure that the place should be matching their required habitat and is safe. In that perfect place for their eggs, they make their nest where they can lay their eggs. After they lay their eggs in that nest, they protect those eggs. Till the eggs are not broken and a baby bird comes out of it they give their body warmth to the eggs. Once the baby birds come out of the eggs, they still live in that same nest for a few months so that the mother can teach her children how to fly, eat, catch food, etc., skills for living. Once they are big enough to live on their own, they all fly away.
It takes time to build a nest. As birds need to pick many stings, feathers and other comfy stings for them to weave those things together and make a comfy nest of them.
Now, as we already know, birds are of different sizes, so of course, the size of their eggs will depend on the size of their parents.
Example- An ostrich egg weighs around 1600 – 2500 grams. They can lay 60 eggs at a time. Just imagine the size of the nest of an ostrich; it’s really big.
A hummingbird’s egg weighs around 2.5 grams. So they only need a small nest.
