In the long term, to develop any kind of skill, we need to give importance to repetition, consistency, regularity and most importantly to enjoy the art of learning the art itself.

Be it sports, music, or anything, if someone is regularly giving consistent efforts into certain aspects of their life, surely they will improve and eventually develop mastery.

But the goal should not only be a great artist but also someone who loves the process of creating the art itself. Learning an art form can be thrilling and brings a lot to explore about the creative world of arts and also allows you to express yourself in several ways you might have never thought about before!!

As someone who loves to draw, I would surely say to do the following to enhance your sketching abilities:
    1. Try to illustrate and imitate from real-life references and other drawings.
    2. Practice drawing shapes: squares, circles, etc.
    3. Practice shading.
    4. Try to create art without any references which would describe certain thoughts, experiences, or any emotions you would have.
    5. Enjoy !!

So best of luck on your journey to improve your art!!

Hello and thank you for asking about this question…
I am a self-taught digital artist who loves to draw to express my thoughts and emotions.
Surely the state of your art style and how you create your art (or any form of arts and crafts) is heavily influenced by your emotional state.
In my personal experience, the times I have found myself feeling stuck, stressed, depressed, and heartbroken have been the times where I have produced some artwork which I am very much proud of.
You might also agree many songwriters (and the singers) have written (and sung) great songs to express the emotions of pain, love, joy and whatnot!

Coming back to my own experiences, when things are not going quite well, I try to draw what I am feeling, and the colour combinations nicely incorporate the negativity surrounding me and come into my hands naturally! For eg. while feeling depressed or sad, along with a gloomy expression of the character I have drawn, more often than not, the combination of purple grey and blue is used to highlight the negative emotions which is overwhelming the character.

Similarly, my happy experiences are highlighted by bright colours like yellow or golden colours along with comforting and happier (cuter) expressions.

Many people find it easier to convey and express their feelings through their artistic skills because it becomes quite difficult to use words sometimes, and that is why art is truly a beautiful medium of expressing emotions.

    Hey Fellow Artist!
It is great that you are starting your journey to learn and explore the creative world of arts and crafts.
I am a self-taught digital artist and since a very young age, I have been scribbling, and sketching all over my school notebooks, walls, windows, and whatnot!!
My advice to any budding and aspiring artist would be just to play with the tools you have and the most important thing is to just enjoy doing the thing rather than trying to achieve perfection.
The main motivation to draw or do any form of art is to just express what we want to convey to the world which might be often difficult with words. Arts and crafts are a means to express our emotions and we should always be aware that none of the forms of communication is perfect…

Expert artists often find themselves worrying about every small detail of their creation to achieve perfection, and they forget about the initial joy of actually making the art which they must have felt during their childhood…

So as a beginner just enjoy yourself doing all sorts of experiments with your craft, and yes do not forget the importance of pieces of advice from experienced artists, and with our current digitalized world, it is quite easy to get into the rabbit hole of lot of contents about beginning your journey as an artist, that is why, it is always better to find and rely someone with whom you could talk about your feelings and thoughts regarding your journey….

    All The Best!!

One of the most important factors which I forgot to mention was regularity. Experts became an expert due to their regular and consistent commitment to actually doing the art itself! Thus never underestimate the power of regularity and repeatation.
