Main functions of plasma membrane are :-

1) to give protection to the cell .

2) provide fixed shape to cell .

3) allows transport of certain substances into and out of the cell , so known as selectively permeable membrane.

4) transport of small molecules such as glucose , amino acids , water , minerals ions etc.
