Origami is the art of paper folding, and there are many different types of origami techniques that can be used to create a variety of models. Here are some of the most common types of origami techniques:

    • Action Origami: This type of origami involves models that can move or change shape, such as a flapping bird or a jumping frog.
    • Modular Origami: This technique involves creating multiple identical units and then assembling them to create a larger model, such as a stellated icosahedron.
    • Wet-Folding: This technique involves dampening the paper before folding to create more organic, curved shapes.
    • Pureland Origami: This technique involves folding with only one fold at a time, and is often used to create simple, elegant designs.
    • Origami Tessellations: This technique involves folding a single sheet of paper into a repeating pattern, often with intricate geometric shapes.
    • Kirigami: This technique involves cutting the paper in addition to folding it, and is often used to create pop-up cards or other decorative designs.
    • Strip Folding: This technique involves folding long, thin strips of paper to create intricate designs, such as a woven basket.
    • Model Bases: These are the structural skeletons of origami models, and there are several common bases that are used frequently, such as the waterbomb base, preliminary fold, kite base, fish base, bird base, and frog base.

Drawing and painting are two different visual art forms that have some similarities but also some key differences. Here are the main differences:

    Drawing

    • Focuses primarily on lines and shading.
    • Uses dry media such as pencil, charcoal, or chalk on a paper surface.
    • Represents an object or outlines a figure, plan, or sketch by means of lines.
    • Can be the basis of a painting.
    • Has more detail than painting because it’s made using pencils, pens, and markers that create different levels of thickness in the lines they make to represent details like hair and individual blades of grass.
    • Can be done on paper or other surfaces like walls and floors.

    Painting

    • Focuses on color and form.
    • Uses wet media such as acrylic paint or oil paint on canvas, wood, or a copper surface.
    • Is the practice of applying color to a solid surface such as paper or canvas.
    • Employs color, form, and texture.
    • Uses oils, watercolors, or acrylics which are wet mediums.
    • Can be done on a canvas or specialized papers as its base.
    • Lets you fill in large areas and create shades a lot easier than drawing.

In summary, the main difference between drawing and painting is the selected medium and surface. Drawing is predominately practiced with dry media such as pencil, charcoal, or chalk on a paper surface, while painting implements wet media such as acrylic paint or oil paint on canvas, wood, or a copper surface. Drawing focuses primarily on lines and shading, while painting focuses on color and form.
