The main difference between series circuits and parallel circuits is the amount of current that flows through each of the components in the circuit.

In series circuits, the same amount of energy flows through all the components, whereas in parallel, current flows from each component combine to form the current flow through the source.

In a series circuit, the components are arranged in a line, whereas in a parallel circuit, components are attached parallel to each other.

When resistors are arranged in series, the voltage across the circuit is different even though the circuit flow is the same. But in a parallel circuit, the voltage across each resistor is the same. So if one component in a series breaks down whole circuit will be disturbed, but in parallel, even if one breaks down, each has its own independent circuit.
