The Battle of Plassey took place in the region of Bengal, which is now part of present-day India and Bangladesh. Specifically, the battle was fought near the village of Plassey (also spelled Palashi), situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River in the Nadia district of West Bengal, India. The battle, which occurred on June 23, 1757, was a significant event in the history of British colonial rule in India, as it marked a turning point in their control over the region. The British East India Company, led by Robert Clive, defeated the forces of the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah, establishing British dominance in Bengal and setting the stage for further British expansion in the Indian subcontinent.
