The main difference between series circuit and parallel circuit is the amount of current that flows through each of the components in the circuit.

In series circuit, the same amount of energy flows through all the components, where as in parallel current flow from each component combine to form the current flow through the source.

In series circuit, the components are arranged in a line, where as in parallel circuit components are attached parallel to each other.

When resistors are arranged in series the voltage across the circuit is different even though the circuit flow is same. But in parallel circuit, voltage across each resistors is the same. So if one component in series break down whole circuit will disturb, but in parallel even if one break down, each has its own independent circuit.
