After the Maurya dynasty, several dynasties ruled over the region of Magadh. Here are some notable dynasties that held power in Magadh after the Mauryas:

Shunga Dynasty (c. 185 BCE – 73 BCE): The Shunga dynasty succeeded the Mauryas and ruled over Magadh and other parts of northern India. They were founded by Pushyamitra Shunga, who overthrew the last Maurya ruler. The Shungas patronized Brahmanical Hinduism and made efforts to revive traditional Vedic practices.

Kanva Dynasty (c. 73 BCE – 26 BCE): The Kanva dynasty followed the Shungas and ruled over Magadh for a brief period. Vasudeva Kanva was the most prominent ruler of this dynasty. During their rule, Buddhism and other non-Brahmanical sects gained prominence.

Gupta Dynasty (c. 320 CE – 550 CE): The Gupta dynasty, one of the most significant dynasties in ancient India, also ruled over Magadh. Under the Gupta Empire, Magadh witnessed a period of great prosperity and cultural advancement. The Gupta rulers were patrons of art, literature, and science.

Pala Dynasty (c. 8th century CE – 12th century CE): The Pala dynasty, which originated in Bengal, extended its rule over Magadh and other parts of eastern India. The Palas were known for their patronage of Buddhism and learning. Nalanda University, located in Magadh, flourished during their reign.

These are just a few examples of the dynasties that ruled over Magadh after the Maurya dynasty. The region witnessed the rise and fall of several other dynasties and kingdoms over the centuries.
