  The first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal was Karnam Malleswari. She won the bronze medal in weightlifting at the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. Karnam Malleswari competed in the women’s 69 kg category and became the first Indian woman to achieve an Olympic medal.
