Why does a pendulum come to a stop after some time?

Firstly the pendulum does not stop all of a sudden. The movement of the pendulum slows down and it stops eventually. Its because the atmosphere around the pendulum creates air resistance that slows down the pendulum and also the gravity acting downwards on the pendulum slows down the motion of the pendulum. Rather than that the friction at the point of support and energy that is being converted to thermal energy during the swinging motion also slows down the motion of the pendulum.
