The key difference between rational and irrational numbers is:
Rational Numbers:
- Rational numbers are numbers that can be expressed as a ratio (fraction) of two integers.
- The denominator of the fraction cannot be zero.
- Examples of rational numbers include: 1/2, 3/4, 5, -2/3, 0.75, etc.
Irrational Numbers:
- Irrational numbers are numbers that cannot be expressed as a simple ratio of two integers.
- They have decimal expansions that never end and never repeat.
- Examples of irrational numbers include: π (pi), √2, √5, e (the mathematical constant), etc.
