  Write the following statements in the form of equations and solve the equations.

  1.The sum of three times x and 10 is 40.

  2.One third of a number plus 7 is 10.

  3.The sum of three numbers is 20 .First number is 8, third number is 3 times of the second number.

  4.If you subtract 8 from 7 times of a number, you get 6.

  1. 3x + 10 = 40

  3x = 40 – 10

  3x = 30

  x = 30/3

  x = 10

  
  

  2. x/3 + 7 = 10<div>

  x/3 = 10 – 7

  x/3 = 3

  x = 3*3

  x = 9

  
  

  3. x + y + z = 20

  x = 8, z = 3y (given)

  so, 8 + y + 3y = 20

  4y = 20 – 8 = 12

  y = 12/4

  y = 3

  
  

  4. 7x – 8 = 6

  7x = 6 + 8 = 14

  x = 14/7

  x = 2
