This gravitational force acts on all objects near the Earth’s surface, causing them to accelerate downwards at a rate of approximately 9.8 meters per second squared (m/s^2). This acceleration due to gravity is what we observe as objects falling to the ground.
The strength of gravity depends on the masses of the objects involved and the distance between them. The greater the mass of an object, the stronger the gravitational force acting on it. And the closer an object is to the Earth’s surface, the stronger the gravitational force pulling it downwards.
So in summary, the reason things fall to the ground is because of the ever-present force of gravity exerted by the massive Earth, which pulls all objects towards its center. This fundamental force of nature is what causes objects to accelerate downwards when unsupported.
