Child labor refers to the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives children of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular school , and is mentally, physically, socially, and morally harmful.
In simple words, worldwide millions of children are forced into unpaid or paid work that deprives them of an education, a happy childhood and a prosperous future.
While child labor around the world has declined by more than third in the last 15 years, it remains a serious challenge and barrier to the well-being of children .According to a 2017 report by the international labor organization (ILO) the number of child laborers around the world fell from 246million in 1000 to around 152 million in 2016. However, millions of children continue to be exploited for cheap labor ,especially in countries such as India .
According to ILO, there are around 12.9 million Indian children engaged in work between the ages 7 to 17 years old.
Some methods to prevent child labor:
1.Free education for children
2.Stakeholder must take responsibility
3.Provide support for children
4.Improve economic growth
5. Engage with the sustainable development goals
6. Refer to your buyers requirements
7.Check the age of your employees
8. identify hazardous work
9.Carry out workplace risk assessment
10.Stop hiring children below the minimum age
