India is the oldest culture in the world. The civilization of India began about 4,500 years ago. India is a diverse country with more than 1.2 billion people, in fact, it is widely known and is visibly prominent in its people, culture, and climate. The food, clothing, and habits of an Indian differ in accordance with the place of origin.
Moving on to the culture of India. The Indian culture varies with its enormous geography and vast history. Many People communicate in different languages, dress according to their region, follow different religions, eat different food but are of the same in mind and spirit.
Language: Many people living in India write in Devanagari script. In fact, it is a misconception that the majority of people in India speak Hindi. Though Hindi is the national language of India, 59 percent of Indians speak according to their states like Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, and Urdu. We have diversity in language also.
Clothing: Indian clothing is particularly identified as a colorful silk sari worn by many of the country’s women. A traditional piece of clothing for men includes dhoti and kurta. One is an unstitched piece of cloth that is tied around the waist and legs and the other is a loose shirt that is worn about knee-length, resectiely.
Religion: India is known as the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism and is the third and fourth-largest religion in the world. About 84 percents are Hindu and about 13 percent of Indians are Muslim, making it one of the largest Islamic nations in the world. Christians and Sikhs make up a small percentage of the population, but they add to the adversity of India.
Food: Indian cuisine is also influenced largely by curry and spices. It is known for its large variety of dishes and its liberal use of herbs and spices. Cooking styles vary from region to region. Basmati rice, wheat, and pulses with chana are important staples of the Indian diet. Many Hindus are vegetarian, but lamb, fish, and chicken are common in main dishes for non-vegetarians.
Festivals: India is also known as the country of festivals. Among which Diwali is the largest and most celebrated festival in India. Another one is, Holi, the festival of colors, also called the festival of love, which is popular in the spring. The country also celebrates Republic Day on 26 Jan and Independence Day on 15 Aug.
So, whether it is a joyous occasion or a moment of grief, people participate candidly and profoundly in the feeling of happiness or pain.
