  World War II ended in the year 1945. The exact date of its end varies depending on the different theaters of the war. In Europe, the war concluded on May 8, 1945, known as Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day), when Germany surrendered. In the Pacific, the war ended on September 2, 1945, with Japan’s surrender following the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Soviet Union’s entry into the conflict. This date is referred to as Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) or Japan’s Surrender Day.
