Through political maneuvering and alliances, Robert Clive managed to secure the support of Mir Jafar, a dissatisfied general in the Nawab’s army. Mir Jafar betrayed Siraj-ud-Daulah during the battle, leading to a swift victory for the British.
The battle resulted in the establishment of British hegemony over Bengal, one of the wealthiest and most populous regions in India at the time. It gave the British East India Company control over the administration and revenue collection in Bengal. The victory at Plassey allowed the company to expand its territorial control and establish a foundation for the British Raj, which later became formalized with the direct rule of the British Crown.
