What is draught? What precautions should we take to prevent it?
Explain Drought And Precautions To Prevent It
Drought can be defined as an extreme shortage of rainfall or water in a particular area. It directly affects the crops, resulting in a shortage of food for humans and fodder for animals. In India, more than 70% of the total cultivated land is drought-prone. Those areas become nonfertile. Drought is a common phenomenon in India, but due to better planning and a drought management program, the capacity to kill a large number of animals and people has been reduced.
Rainwater harvesting systems must be promoted throughout the drought-prone areas. Farmers should be made aware of the conservation of water through education. Common people should be trained properly about the conservation of water. They should be aware of the Limited availability of water. They must be informed about the plans and strategies of the government regarding drought and how to combat it. Drought-resistant plants must be planted, and the Crop Insurance Scheme should be encouraged to recover the loss. Proper irrigation facilities are the primary and best way to fight the drought. The modern techniques of drip irrigation must be followed.
