The chief function of Red blood cells(RBCs) is to transport oxygen throughout the body. The RBCs(consisting of hemoglobin) bind to the oxygen molecules and transport them into the desired organs or tissues.
RBCs also help in the redness of the blood.

Red blood corpuscles, or erythrocytes, are the oxygen-carrying cells of the body from lungs. It carries a protein called hemoglobin, which further contains Iron, which can bind 4 molecules of oxygen. It is formed in bone marrow, and its formation is known as Erythrogenesis. RBC lifespan is 120 days and does not contain a nucleus.
