What occurs when iron is exposed to moisture and oxygen?
Explain the Rusting Process of Iron
When iron is exposed to moisture along with oxygen, it undergoes a chemical change known as oxidation. As a result, we get iron oxide on the surface, which we in common terms know as rust. This process is slow but very stable. Hence, to prevent rusting, we apply oil on the surface of the iron to prevent it from coming into contact with moisture or oxygen.
