Which Mughal Emperor Expanded The Empire The Most?

The Mughal emperor who expanded the Mughal Empire to its greatest territorial extent was Aurangzeb.

Aurangzeb reigned as the sixth Mughal emperor from 1658 to 1707 CE. During his 49-year reign, he was able to conquer and annex many regions, expanding the Mughal Empire to cover most of the Indian subcontinent.

Some key expansions and victories during Aurangzeb’s reign include:

Conquest of the Deccan region, including the Sultanates of Bijapur and Golconda
Annexation of the kingdoms of Assam, Arakan, and parts of Afghanistan
Conquest of the Rajput kingdoms, bringing them under Mughal suzerainty
Expansion of Mughal control over southern India, reaching as far as the Krishna River
At the height of Aurangzeb’s rule, the Mughal Empire stretched from the Himalayas in the north to the Godavari River in the south, and from the Indus River in the west to the Brahmaputra River in the east. This represented the largest territorial extent achieved by the Mughal dynasty.

However, Aurangzeb’s long wars of conquest and harsh policies also sowed the seeds for the eventual decline of the Mughal Empire after he died in 1707.
