How do plastic bags harm our environment and sea life?

Impact of Plastic Bags on Sea Life & Our Environment

Plastic is the most destructive material for our environment. Plastic is a non-biodegradable material, which means it can not be destroyed by anything except heat. Plastic pollution increases day by day for its usefulness, as it is not so expensive, very cheap and it’s very easy to use. Nowadays, plastic bags are seen everywhere, like houses, malls, etc. But when you use it, can you ever think about how it harms wildlife, mankind, and aquatic life? Not! Right! So, let’s learn about how it harms our environment. The sea life or aquatic life.

Water pollution: Plastic bags pollute the sea, rivers, and every possible water body. After using many people through it on the water, that’s why millions of plastic materials where found in the water bodies every year. Plastic makes the water poisonous, and many of us unknowingly use it and harm ourselves. If we don’t stop using plastic, then in the future, every water body will be filled with plastic.

Harm the plants: We all know that plants are the most important and precious part of the environment and mankind, but if we throw plastic bags away anywhere, then it will mix into the soil. Plastic is non-biodegradable material, so it can’t be destroyed; it remains in the soil and pollutes it. And when plants grow in the soil, it gets harmed, and many of time it died for the poisonous soil.

Infertile soil:- Soil is the most needed thing for growing crops and grains. For the crops, we get food for living. But when the soil gets polluted by the plastic, it becomes infertile and isn’t able to grow crops.

Harm the aquatic animals: Plastic bags have become the most popular reason for the deaths of aquatic animals or sea animals. They mistakenly thought it was food and swallowed it, and when it got stuck in their throat, they died of asphyxiation. Most of the time, dolphins become the victim of it when they mistakenly eat plastic; it gets stuck in their mouth, and they can’t eat anything, so they live day by day without food and eventually die of starvation. Plastic killed millions of dolphins in a year.

Pollution is increasing with each passing day, Pollution is the contamination of the air, water, and soil with harmful toxic substances. One of the most common pollutants that gets generated in huge amounts each day is Plastic. Plastic materials are non-biodegradable and hence can remain for ages in the soil and water, leading to land and water pollution, respectively, and if in case they are burnt, they emit very harmful toxic gases that cause air pollution. Plastics are generally composed of synthetic and semi-synthetic polymerized materials.

Plastic bad and other items when are disposed to land pits it stays there for a long time then after it starts getting in penetrating the soli this gradual process results in clogging the roots of the plants as a result the roots can no longer breathe or grow and finally the plants or trees dies, this further takes part in soil erosion as the roots of the soil is no longer binding it.

Plastic also affects the sea life in a greater extent when are disposed in the water bodies, as they do not get decomposed any small sea creatures gets trapped and entangled in them and as the result loses life for not getting food whereas some of the larger sea creatures mistakes plastic as food and intakes it and gets toxic and this toxicity is transferred to us human beings when we consume these see foods.
