What’s Inside The Worksheet
This printable pack is designed for little ones.
- Colorful Picture Cards: Colorful illustrations of kid-friendly fruits and vegetables, from crunchy broccoli to sweet watermelon.
- Vitamin Letter Cards: Simple cards featuring vitamin letters.
- A Matching Play Mat: A central layout where kids can pair the food with its vitamin superpower.
A Step-by-Step Guide
- Print & Play: Download and print the sheets. For extra durability, laminate them or stick them on cardboard! I’ve found this makes them last through multiple kids and play sessions.
- Start the Conversation: Lay out the fruit and vegetable cards. Ask about them.
- Introduce the Superpowers: Show the vitamin cards one by one. Read the benefit aloud with gusto! “This is Vitamin C! It’s like your body’s repair crew!”
- Match Them Up: Work together to place each fruit or vegetable on top of its correct vitamin card. There’s no need for a strict quiz—make it a collaborative discovery. “Hmm, we know carrots are great for our eyes. Which vitamin card talks about seeing in the dark?”
- Reinforce and Celebrate: As you match, use the language again. “Awesome! You gave the orange to Vitamin C. That’s going to help your body stay so healthy!”
(Bonus Tip!) For a fantastic fine-motor skill exercise, let your child use blobs of playdough to stick the cards to the mat. It adds a tactile element that younger kids love.
(Beyond the Worksheet) The learning doesn’t have to stop when the game is put away. Here’s how to bring it to life:
- Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt: Take the concepts to the store! Can your child find a fruit with vitamin C? A green vegetable with vitamin K?
- Colorful Plate Challenge: At mealtime, see how many different colors they can get on their plate. Each color often represents different vitamins!
- Smoothie Scientists: Let them help you create a smoothie and name it after its superpower. “This ‘Vision Booster Smoothie’ has mangoes and peaches for Vitamin A!”
