Description
This hands-on vowel sorting activity helps children recognize and identify words that begin with the five vowels (A, E, I, O, and U). Children will cut out the picture cards and place each one in the correct vowel house based on its beginning letter sound. Preparation
- Download and print the worksheet.
- For extra durability, paste the pages onto cardboard.
- Carefully cut out the picture cards along the dotted lines.
- Place the vowel house worksheet on a flat surface.
- Mix all the picture cards before beginning the activity.
How to Play
Option 1: Vowel Sorting
- Pick one picture card.
- Say the picture name aloud.
- Identify its beginning vowel sound.
- Place the card in the correct vowel house.
Option 2: Say and Sort
- Name each picture clearly.
- Repeat the beginning vowel sound.
- Sort the picture into the matching vowel house.
Option 3: Timed Sorting Challenge
- Mix all the picture cards.
- Set a timer.
- Sort all the pictures into the correct vowel houses before the timer ends.
Option 4: Vowel Sound Challenge
- Choose a vowel house.
- Find all the pictures that begin with that vowel sound.
- Continue until every picture has been sorted.
