The slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” was given by the second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. He coined this slogan to emphasize the importance of both the soldiers (Jawan) and the farmers (Kisan) in building and protecting the nation. The slogan was first used during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 to boost the morale of the Indian soldiers and encourage agricultural productivity in the country. It became a popular slogan and is still remembered and used as a patriotic chant in India.
