Speculations About Harappan Disappearance

Harappans were the early inhabitants of the Indian Subcontinent. What are some speculations about their sudden disappearance?

Speculations About Harappan Disappearance

The progressive degeneration and final collapse of the Harappan civilization has been attributed to several factors. It is generally held that calamitous alterations in the course of the Indus and the Ravi rivers led to the desiccation of the countryside side, which ceased to produce food for urban centres. Another reason behind the collapse of Harappan civilization is floods. The floods were perhaps derived from violent geomorphological changes in the lower Indus region, leading, in turn, to the economic decline of the Harappan settlements. Human skeletons found in Mohenjo-Daro indicate that the city was invaded.
